I’m currently coveting these beautiful, digitally printed silk scarves designed by Louisa Parris, a textile and fashion designer based out of San Francisco and London. I love the subtle quirkiness of those bold, geometric patterns and the colour combinations couldn’t be more perfect! Not exactly affordable… but any of her scarves (the Lark especially!) would be at the top of my Christmas wishlist.

Matt’s ridiculously adorable, super addictive puzzle game Gesundheit! is finally out for iOS! He’s been working so tirelessly on it for the past seven months… Blood, sweat and tears is all I can say (mostly my tears). I’m really proud of him. In the app store now – you should check it out!

I can’t get over how cool (and maybe slightly… disturbing?) this music video is! Directed by Megaforce.

Some new work up on my site: the 2011 call for entries for the ADCC awards showcase. I should ask my friend Ed for his camera again… My point-and-shoot doesn’t take the best photos, even with a setup.

I can’t believe that we’ve been back from London for almost a year now. A year always seems like a substantial amount of time in my mind, but in hindsight it never really feels that way at all… We’ve been having some beautiful weather in Toronto lately and it makes me nostalgic for the perfect London summer we had last year. I can only remember a handful of days when it actually rained.
Things I miss the most: 1. Daily strolls along the canal; 2a. Weekend walks to the flower market; 2b. And car boot sales (I wish we called them boots..!); 3. Beers in the park, by the canal, on the sidewalks – basically all the places we can’t drink in Toronto; 4. Sitting at the front of the top level of the bus and watching the city go by (I never tired of it… although, maybe I would have with more time and British cynicism); 5. Seeing something new everyday (which maybe isn’t fair to Toronto, since I grew up here).
If only I could transplant all my friends and family there… that would be great.

Just a small update on my site… A few simple collages I made a few months ago for a short fiction and poetry anthology series called TOK: Writing the New Toronto. I hope to post a couple more recent projects in the coming weeks, but that’ll depend on how beautiful the weather is and whether or not I can bear staring at a computer screen when it’s nice and sunny out. We’ll see!

How incredible does this dress look from Caitlyn Mociun’s Fall 2011 Collection?! Love the pattern, the sweetheart neckline and those quirky cutout sleeves — it’s absolutely perfect. Saving my pennies now..!

I’ve really been quite good at neglecting my tumblr… Not even the customary New Year’s resolution post about how I’m going to try and update more regularly — no, no. I guess I know myself pretty well now to realize that I’ll never be au courant in my journal-keeping endeavours. We’re already midway through February after all.
Anyway, if all goes well, my portfolio site should be updated with some new work by the end of the week! Stay tuned.

Sweet and festive post on Christoph Niemann’s blog today! I can’t believe Christmas is just around the corner… it seems like this year really just flew by.

At work today, while laying out some copy for a magazine feature on sunglasses, I learned that sunglasses actually trace their origin back to ancient Inuit times. They were used to prevent snow blindness, caused by the sun’s harsh rays reflecting off the snow and subsequently damaging the retina — makes sense. These sunglasses, or “snow goggles” as they’re more often referred to, were made out of leather, wood, bone and even walrus tusks..! The designs were simple, generally with small slits to see through, but really quite beautiful in their minimalism.
A quick google image search on “Inuit snow goggles” also yielded “Slanties” — a contemporary line of handcrafted, wooden eyewear based on the aforementioned goggles. I’m not going to comment on the racially tinged name… It looks like they might have stopped producing them anyway as a result of that misstep. In any case, they pale in comparison to the source.
